Principal's Message

Dear Roosevelt Parents & Guardians,

It is with great excitement that we welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year!  Our staff is thrilled to be welcoming our scholars returning Thursday, August 18th.   This school year will be filled with much activity, joy, and new beginnings.  I hope your summer has been relaxing and enjoyable.  Our goal is to continue to advance our students in every capacity!

The first day on campus is full of so many emotions!  We greatly appreciate your patience as we revisit in-person learning protocols and routines.  It is our priority to ensure our students feel safe and comfortable at school.  So please keep this in mind:  for school to be effective, it is essential that trust and support exists between the school and parents as well as the school and student.   Due to district health and safety guidelines, we are operating under a closed campus policy.  Staff will be ready to greet your child.  It is suggested kindergarten, first, and second graders have identification in their backpack so staff can direct them to their teacher.

We ended the 2021-2022 school year with 25% of our students on or above grade level in reading and 28% on or above grade level in math in spring i-Ready.  On the CAASPP exam tested in grades 3 - 8. Roosevelt students ELA performance 21.4 %, Math 22.4%  Next year, at Roosevelt K-8 school, we will focus on explicit direct instruction, tiered intervention, individualized usage of programs, and curriculum instruction alignment to the Common Core Standards. We will focus heavily on:

  • Teaching students to use strategies for understanding various genre of text and reading to learn
  • Improving the foundational skills in the areas of early literacy, conceptual and procedural fluency in math
  • Building interest in Science, Technology, Art, Engineering and Math (STEAM)
  • Building social relationships and independence in the school community
  • Increasing safety measures and parent involvement
  • Writing across all disciplines (Science, Math History, English)

Meeting this goal will require an even stronger commitment from our parents.  Attendance matters! Research has shown that your child's regular attendance may be the greatest factor influencing his/her academic success.  Parents make the commitment this year to bring your child/children every day to school a priority.  Compton Unified is a K - 8 uniform district, therefore all students are expected to be in full uniform.

The school office will remain open during the summer Monday - Friday. (8:00 am - 3:00 pm), so do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance 310-898-6350.  Enjoy the remainder of your summer.  We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Rayjanette Condley,
Principal
